The Pittsburgh Penguins will see a key froward return to the lineup after missing time due to illness.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins kicked off their four-game road trip with a dramatic loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets and had to finish that contest without a key forward. After just one shift in the third period, Michael Bunting left the Penguins bench and did not return.
Following the loss, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan stated that Bunting left the game due to an illness.
The Penguins are in New York preparing to take on the Rangers, and it appears that Bunting won’t miss any more time. Bunting participated in the morning skate and was featured in his usual spot on the first power play unit.
Bunting said following the skate that he feels good to go against the Rangers.
Bunting has been a huge piece of the lineup since joining the team, with three goals and four assists for seven points in 12 games. Losing him would have been detrimental to the Penguins’ season.
With nine games remaining, the Penguins’ playoff odds are long, but they still have a chance to go on a miraculous run. It won’t be an easy road, however, as three games remain on the road trip, and the Penguins have lost nine straight away from Pittsburgh.
