The odds are out on where Pittsburgh Penguins star Jake Guentzel lands next.
PITTSBURGH –The future of Jake Guentzel with the Pittsburgh Penguins has been a point of focus for many around the NHL as the trade deadline closes in. Penguins’ general manager Kyle Dubas has yet to decide what direction to take the team, but his decision with Guentzel will be a big tell of where the team is heading.
While Dubas and the Penguins want to keep Guentzel around, that hasn’t stopped the trade speculation from hitting new highs. Some outlets have even put out hypothetical odds on what teams are likely the next destination for Guentzel.
According to PennStakes.com, the Edmonton Oilers are the front runners with +1200 odds or a 7.7% chance of landing Guentzel. The Colorado Avalanche finished in second with +1500 and 6.2% odds.
The Vancouver Canucks were long looked at as the favorite, but they recently acquired top trade target Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames. Following their deal to nab Lindholm, the Canucks slipped a bit in the Guentzel race. They now sit sixth with +4000 and a 2.4% chance.
Other teams in the hunt include the Vegas Golden Knights (+1750), New York Rangers (+2500), and Dallas Stars (+3500).
Guentzel sticking with the Penguins is the true leader with -200 odds and 71.4%. Since the Penguins have stepped up their play in the last 20 games, they need a player like Guentzel to help push them into the playoffs and possibly on another Stanley Cup run.
