With multiple players nearing a return, the Pittsburgh Penguins will place Dmitri Samorukov on waivers.

A few weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Dmitri Samorukov to an official NHL contract, not only for his hard work, but to help fill space being left open by injured players.

Samorukov was soon after brought to the Penguins NHL roster, but never laced up for a game; rather being held as a healthy scratch each game.

With defenders like P.O. Joseph and Chad Ruhwedel nearing a return, Kyle Dubas stated the plan is to place Samorukov on waivers and look send him back to the AHL.

Dubas stated that Samorukov worked hard with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and earned his way past an AHL contract.

The staff at WBS also backed the defenseman prior to converting his contract to an NHL deal.

In 15 games at the AHL level this season, Samorukov has scored a goal and four assists for five total points.

The 24-year-old has appeared in three career NHL games; one with the Edmonton Oilers and two with the St. Louis Blues.
