PITTSBURGH – It’s a big day for the Pittsburgh Penguins organization with the retirement of Jaromir Jagr’s jersey, but there is still a game to be played. Before a game can be played, the Penguins also need to set their lineup which could see some real changes.

Jake Guentzel is on long-term injured reserve while Jansen Harkins was listed as a game-time decision by Mike Sullivan. With Harkins likely returning, the Penguins need to make room on the roster.

Before their game against the Los Angeles Kings, the Penguins have re-assigned Jonathan Gruden and Vinnie Hinostroza to the American Hockey League. They also officially elevated Harkins off injured reserve.

In their most recent stint at the NHL level, Gruden and Hinostroza were up at the NHL level for one game but only Gruden saw the ice. Gruden played 7:18 against the Chicago Blackhawks on the Penguins fourth line.

Gruden has played in five games with the Penguins in 2023-24 and has not scored a goal or assist. Hinnostroza has appeared in 14 games with a goal and two assists for three points.

Harkins has been a consistent face in the Penguins lineup for a majority of the season with 34 games played. In that time, Harkins has only recorded four assists with no goals. It is likely that Harkins will return to his usual spot on the Penguins’ fourth line with Jeff Carter and Colin White.
