The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned a defender still looking for his NHL debut.
PITTSBURGH – After a few days at the NHL level, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned Jack St. Ivany to the American Hockey League. St. Ivany was recalled shortly after general manager Kyle Dubas spoke glowingly of the young defenseman but did not see any game action.
The Penguins had pitched St. Ivany back and forth on an emergency recall basis, but those were only paper moves. This full announcement from the team likely means he’ll be heading back to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to get some playing time.
St. Ivany was listed on the Penguins roster for two games but was healthy scratched for both. Head coach Mike Sullivan listed St. Ivany as a game-time decision against the New York Rangers, but they went with P.O. Joseph in the likely position instead.
The Penguins recalled St. Ivany in hopes he could be a third right-hand shot for the lineup, but he was never given the chance to slot in. The Penguins continued to roll with four lefties and two righties.
With the Penguins set to embark on a three-game road trip, it will be interesting to see St. Ivany’s next steps. St. Ivany is still waiting for his NHL debut.
