The Pittsburgh Penguins have a tough road ahead, but Sidney Crosby will do what he can to carry the team.

PITTSBURGH – The odds of the Pittsburgh Penguins making the postseason are slim, but Sidney Crosby returning to form would provide a considerable boost. For the last 11 games, Crosby has failed to record a single goal, taking a toll on the Penguins’ and their playoff chances.

In the 11 games without a Crosby goal, the Penguins went 3-7-1 and were outscored 45-25. Crosby was picking up assists occasionally and doing all he could to help the team win, but they needed his scoring touch.

With a big game against the Detroit Red Wings, Crosby found his rhythm and helped the Penguins take a massive two points in the playoff race.

In 19 minutes of ice time, Crosby kicked his goal drought and added an assist en route to being named the game’s first star. The Penguins offense has found itself recently, with six goals in wins over the Red Wings and San Jose Sharks and four in a loss to the Rangers.

Crosby never worries about his own counting stats; rather, he focuses on the team and securing wins. That doesn’t mean he’s oblivious to his role. He knows what he brings to the Penguins and what he needs to do to help the team win.

“It’s been a while,” Crosby said. “It’s nice to see it go in. Hopefully, some more will start to go in. We have some huge games coming up. It’ll be nice to see some more go into the net.”

The Penguins will need Crosby to find the net with some regularity down the stretch. As he said, there are huge games on the horizon, and the Penguins are still (somehow) within reach of a playoff spot.

“We’ve got to go a game at a time and get points,” Crosby said. “We’re all pushing; we’re all trying to do what we can to put ourselves in that position.”
