Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby continues to set himself apart as one of the game's all-time greats.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins season might be on thin ice, but Sidney Crosby won’t go down without a fight. Crosby has struggled the past few weeks, but with the Penguins’ third goal against the Colorado Avalanche, he appears to be back on his horse.
Crosby factored in with assists on the first two goals, then added a tally of his own to not only give the Penguins a 3-0 lead but also climb some all-time rankings. With his 584th career goal, Crosby passes The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, for sole possession of seventh all-time in goals with one franchise.
Gretzky may have the all-time goals record with 894, but 583 came with the Edmonton Oilers before he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings.
Crosby still has a few years of NHL play left in him and doesn’t plan to leave the Penguins anytime soon. Despite what some may think, Crosby will remain with the Penguins and should continue to climb this historical ladder.
Penguins’ legend and former teammate of Crosby’s, Mario Lemieux, is fourth on the list with 690 career goals.
Crosby's second assist against the Avalanche also pushed him up the ladder of most all-time points at even strength. He now sits eighth on that list and climbing as he had four points through the second period.
