The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins believes that a change to the NHL's postseason format would be beneficial.
For the past few seasons, the Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled to find success in the postseason.
The Penguins have bowed out in the opening round for four straight years and a number of things have been brought into question.
One question that follows the entire league is if the current playoff format is working for the sport.
With the NHL’s best players flocking to Southern Florida for the All-Star Game, a few of those stars have been asked that exact question.
For Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby, he believes that the NHL should switch to the 1-8 postseason format rather than their current wild card system.
Crosby believes that seeding teams 1 through 8 rewards teams more for their regular season success and creates a more competitive postseason.
Under the current format, the Penguins are sitting in the second wild card spot and are barely holding that spot.
Although, even with the 1-8 format the Penguins are still barely in the postseason by sitting in the 8th seed.
Only one point separates the Penguins and Buffalo Sabres and two to the New York Islanders.
