Sidney Crosby is the lone Pittsburgh Penguins representative at the upcoming NHL All-Star Game, but that doesn’t mean he will be without friends at the event.
According to ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes, the Penguins captain recruited a little help for a new event in the Skills Competition.
Weekes says that Crosby will be participating in the new Splash Shot Challenge with his good friend, and fellow Nova Scotia native, Nathan MacKinnon.
The Splash Shot Challenge is a new, teamed event to the Skills Competition that the NHL says “will be on the beach at Fort Lauderdale and feature eight players, divided into four teams of two. Players are required to hit all the targets before attempting to dunk their opponents, the winner being the one to dunk his or her opponents first.”
Sometimes the NHL All-Star weekend is quite boring, but at least they’re trying to bring in new ideas.
It is, however, a little surprising that the two are participating in this even rather than one of the other new events, Pitch ‘n Puck.
The new Pitch ‘n Puck event combines hockey and golf and have players combine their skill in both sports.
Both Crosby and MacKinnon are talented golfers and this event seems perfect for them.
Of course, there is still a possibility they participate in Pitch ‘n Puck as well as the Splash Challenge.
This is Crosby’s eighth All-Star selection and MacKinnon’s fifth.
