Bryan Rust's overtime magic ends the Pittsburgh Penguins most recent losing skid.

Ron Hextall discusses the decision to waive Kasperi Kapanen and his plan for the trade deadline.

After arguably one of the most eventful weeks in recent memory for the Pittsburgh Penguins, they still had a game to get to in St. Louis.

The Penguins entered their contest against the Blue riding a four-game losing streak and on the brink of losing all hope of their season.

With Kasperi Kapanen claimed off of waivers, Jan Rutta was able to be lifted from long-term injured reserve and Danton Heinen making his first appearance in about a month.

It’s desperation time for the Penguins and it was on display in the opening period; there were no goals, but the Penguins looked to have some jump in their step.

At the end of the first frame the Penguins were up 21-7 in shots on goal.

The Blues capitalized in the opening minute of the second to take a 1-0 lead, but the Penguins managed to battle back.

Evgeni Malkin potted his 22nd of the season to tie the match at one about seven minutes in.

The Penguins had a chance to get up on the Blues further, but the power play has been pretty horrid lately.

That continued with an opportunity in the third that the Penguins let slip by.

The score remained tied through a majority of the third period until new father Marcus Pettersson ripped his first goal of the season.

The Penguins were up by one late in the third, but as has been too common this season, they gave up late tally.

With the score knotted at two, the Penguins and Blues were heading to overtime.

Bryan Rust gets the benefit of the game winner snapping the Penguins losing streak at four games.

The Penguins hope this will can catapult them back into a stride of playoff contention as quite a few bubble teams in the East have also struggled the past few games.
