The Pittsburgh Penguins scored a lot of goals, but their goalie takes the mantel with one of the year's best.
PITTSBURGH – There was plenty of negativity in the 2023-24 season for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it also had a handful of memorable moments. One of which landed among the top goals of the year across the league.
According to the NHL, Tristan Jarry’s goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning stands as the nineth best of the 2023-24 season. Jarry struggled down the stretch of the year, but before everything went down hill, he was stringing together great outings, and capped off a 6-4-1 November with his first career goal.
Goalie goals are rare, and the Penguins netminder is getting proper flowers for his achievement. Aside from picking up the empty net goal, Jarry also made 39 saves on 41 total shots.
With his goal, Jarry became the 14th goalie in NHL history to be credited with a goal, the ninth to do so on a deliberate shot, and the first in Penguins history.
While it was Jarry’s first goal in the NHL, it wasn’t his first in professional hockey. During his time in the American Hockey League, Jarry notched a goal with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2018.
Penguins backup netminder Alex Nedeljkovic also scored a goal this season but did so during his conditioning stint with the WBS Penguins.
