The Pittsburgh Penguins will have multiple teams to choose from in trading Jake Guentzel.

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Penguins’ forward Jake Guentzel has been the hottest topic on the NHL trade market, and with the deadline days away, potential suitors are gearing up for the auction. A dreadful road trip for the Penguins has left them with little choice but to trade Guentzel prior to the deadline.

While plenty of teams have interest and are linked to Guentzel, a couple of front-runners have been revealed. According to Pierre LeBrun, upwards of six or more candidates are in the mix, with the Vegas Golden Knights and Vancouver Canucks leading the race.

“Exploring all options with view to bolster the club for the future,” LeBrun tweeted. “Hearing there's 6-plus legit suitors for Guentzel, VGK and VAN among them.”

The Golden Knights and Canucks have been in the mix as possible destinations since the very beginning, but they clearly haven’t fallen out of the race as the deadline approaches.

The Golden Knights recently placed Mark Stone on long-term injured reserve, opening up more salary cap space to bring in Guentzel’s contract. The Canucks, meanwhile, already have a boatload of former Penguins, and they aren’t afraid of adding another.

Other teams likely in the mix include the Edmonton Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Florida Panthers.

The clock is ticking, and with each passing minute, it seems more likely that the Penguins are set to deal away the best winger Sidney Crosby has ever had.
