For the first time in Pittsburgh Penguins history, a goalie has scored a goal.

The Pittsburgh Penguins looked putrid in the first period against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but they capped off a great comeback with some history.

With the Lightning goalie pulled, Tristan Jarry became the first netminder in Penguins history to record a goal.

Jarry collected a dumped puck cleanly on his stick and saw an opportunity for himself; he let go a bomb of a dump that bounced maybe twice before hitting the back of the net.

The Penguins on the ice mobbed Jarry in celebration, but he didn’t give the bench a fly by.

Backup netminder Alex Nedeljkovic was calling for Jarry to skate by the bench, but Jarry stayed put in his net.

Nedeljkovic knows a thing or two about scoring goals as just a couple weeks ago he became the first goalie in AHL history to score multiple goals; Jarry himself scored a goal in the AHL in 2018.

The combo of Jarry and Nedeljkoivc have a combined five goals in professional hockey; Jarry's two between the NHL and AHL, plus Ned's two in the AHL and one in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades.

Jarry has always had good skill with puck handling, and it genuinely seemed like just a matter of time before he took a shot in an NHL game.

He said not too long ago that he might not ever try one, but the opportunity presented itself and he didn’t miss.

With his first goal on the season, Jarry now has more goals on the year than multiple Penguins’ skaters.

Jarry said following the game that holding such a record is 'pretty neat,' and something that 'doesn't happen very often.'

He scored the 17th goal by a goalie in NHL history and is now one behind former Penguins general manager Ron Hextall, who is tied for the all-time lead.
