Tristan Jarry is a little behind schedule but progressing towards return to Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.
PITTSBURGH - Tristan Jarry has had a stellar 2022-23 season as the Pittsburgh Penguins starting goalie, but there’s been an obvious flaw.
The Penguins starting netminder has struggled to stay healthy and consistently perform at full-health.
Prior to the start of the bye week, it was announced that Jarry would be away from game action until the conclusion of the NHL All-Star break.
Shortly before the Penguins were set to return to Pittsburgh, they recalled goalie Dustin Tokarski on an emergency basis.
With the All-Star break in the review, Jarry is still not yet prepared for a return to the ice.
Despite not being ready for games, Jarry has been skating on his own, and took part in the Penguins’ morning skate prior to their first contest back from break.
Head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that Casey DeSmith will be the starting goalie for the game, and that Jarry’s day-to-day status has not changed.
“Other than just his progression to participate with the group,” Sullivan said. “His status hasn’t changed. He’s still day-to-day. He’s making significant progress. We’re encouraged by that.”
It was general manager Ron Hextall who labeled Jarry as day-to-day following the return to practices.
DeSmith hasn’t had the greatest season, but is hopeful to be a good backstop in yet another temporary starter role for the Penguins.
