Sure, the Pittsburgh Penguins need changes, but not like that.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby speaks following the team's 7-2 loss on home ice to Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.

Of all the ridiculous takes that surround the Pittsburgh Penguins and their 2022-23 season, this one might be the most outrageous.

Former NHL goalie and current analyst with ESPN Brian Boucher joined 93.7 the Fan to discuss the state of the Penguins.

Boucher did a lot of talk about the team turning their focus selling a few pieces now to add draft stock, then head into the offseason focused on the future.

Part of that look forward included putting everything on the table, including the idea of trading captain Sidney Crosby.

“In the offseason, nobody’s off the table for me,” Boucher said. “I mean the stars. I would look at it… I would include Sid.”

Boucher tried to state that it’s not the ideal move, but continued suggesting nobody should be safe.

“What if you can get five pieces for a single star player?”

The problem with that statement is that it’s Crosby, the leader of the room for almost 20 years and despite the age is still producing at a high level.

Crosby is still over a point-per-game this year with 69 (25G-44A) in 57.

Boucher’s concept of trading key faces didn’t stop at Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang were lumped in multiple times in reference to trading the ‘stars.’

Tristan Jarry was listed as someone general manager should consider shopping around.

The Penguins could use changes, that’s for sure, but this kind of change is a few steps too far.
