The Pittsburgh Penguins will have a new television broadcast team starting this season.
Within 24 hours of the Pittsburgh Penguins announcing they will takeover AT&T SportsNet to own their own regional sports network, changes are already being made.
According to reports from Dave Molinari and Josh Yohe, both Steve Mears and Bob Errey will not return to the Penguins broadcast booth.
Molinari first stated that Errey was out as color commentator shorty followed by Yohe stating Mears wouldn’t be back as the play-by-play announcer.
When the Penguins announced the creation of ‘SportsNet Pittsburgh’ it was immediately unclear if on-screen talent would survive the transition.
While the Penguins and Fenway Sports Group were the owners, New England Sports Network (NESN) were stepping in to handle the daily operations.
It isn’t yet known if any other on-screen talents will be handed the same fate.
Updates are still yet to come from the station regarding other departures or any new hires.
Former Penguins forward Colby Armstrong was given a few chances as a color analyst during the 2022-23 season.
