Even outside of the Pittsburgh Penguins organization fans can watch their favorites reach for personal achievements.
There a quite a few members of the current Pittsburgh Penguins roster who are closing in on significant milestones and achievements, but what about some former favorites?
There are plenty of former Penguins all across the NHL, and even some future Hall of Famers that are looking to cement their legacy.
How far away are certain former fan favorites from reaching new career milestones?
At the moment, Phil Kessel does not have an NHL team to call home; he is, however, on the verge of eclipsing 1,000 career points.
It wasn’t long ago Kessel was surpassing Keith Yandel as the NHL’s all-time ironman and exceeding 1,000 consecutive games played, but now he’s just eight points away from one of the most elite lists in NHL history.
With 992 career points over 17 seasons in the NHL, the three time Stanley Cup champion is hoping to keep playing.
Kessel seems fine with ending his consecutive games played streak (which sits at 1,064) if it means he remains in the NHL.
If Kessel finds a new home, there is no doubt he should reach the 1,000-point milestone in no time.
The single greatest goalie in Penguins history continues to climb the ladder as one of the best in NHL history.
Now, a member of the Minnesota Wild, Marc-Andre Fleury can take down a pair of achievements in what could be his final season in the NHL.
Fleury might play behind Filip Gustavsson in Minnesota, but he is still within striking distance of playing 1,000 games sitting at 985.
Hitting the 1,000-game mark is impressive for any player, but even more so for a goalie; Fleury would become just the fourth netminder to ever hit that number.
Befeore hitting 1,000 games played, though, Fleury might surpass Patrick Roy as the second winningest goalie in NHL history.
Fleury enters the 2023-24 season with 544 career wins, just seven behind Roy’s 551.
Fans in Pittsburgh still have much love for Fleury and will surely hope to see him succeed, even as a member of the Wild.
A more recent departure, Teddy Blueger is just two points shy of hitting 100 in his career.
As a depth forward, Blueger isn’t known as a goal scorer or playmaker, but this is still a significant milestone for the Latvian native.
About to lace up for his first season with the Vancouver Canucks, Blueger can become just the fifth Latvian player to ever hit 100 points.
Fans still miss the days of Jared McCann as an option for the Penguins third line center; instead he is lighting it up as the offensive juggernaut for the Seattle Kraken.
The scoring explosion has quickly pushed McCann’s career numbers to new heights as he closes in on 300 points points.
At 275 over eight seasons, McCann is just 25 points shy of hitting 300.
Both within and outside the Penguins’ organization, fans can watch their favorite players hit milestones that not everyone can say they’ve reached.
