Former Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury Appears in 17th Consecutive Postseason

Marc-Andre Fleury hasn't played with the Pittsburgh Penguins since 2017, but he is still a playoff-caliber goalie.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby discusses the disappointment of missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time on 2006 and what he expects from this offseason.

The Pittsburgh Penguins may have seen their playoff streak come to an end, but a franchise legend has appeared in a 17th consecutive postseason.

With his start in goal for the Minnesota Wild in Game 2 against the Dallas Stars, former Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury notched a 17th straight postseason appearance.

It was a huge letdown of a performance from Fleury and the Wild, as the Stars tied the series at one with a 7-3 victory.

Fleury was in net for each of the seven goals against and it could be argued he never should have started Game 2 in the first place.

Filip Gustavsson picked up a huge double OT win in Game 1 after stopping 51 of 52 shots in over 92 minutes of play.

Regardless, Fleury has appeared in 17 straight NHL Playoffs and is inching his way towards history.

Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson holds the record of most consecutive postseasons with 20.

It’s unlikely Fleury hits that mark, but over his 19-year career, he’s proven to be one of the greatest goalies of all time.

Fleury’s first 11 postseason appearances came with the Penguins where he won 62 games and helped put together four runs to the Stanley Cup Final.

Three of those appearances resulted in Cup victories for Fleury and the Penguins.

Following his third championship, Fleury was taken by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 Expansion Draft, and he immediately helped take them to the Cup Final.

With Fleury as their go-to goalie, the Golden Knights reached the postseason for the first four years of their existence.

The Golden Knights traded Fleury to the Chicago Blackahawks who later flipped him to the Wild prior to the trade deadline.

Both the Golden Knights and Blackhawks missed the playoffs, while Fleury and the Wild made the dance.

Fleury is a no-doubt Hall of Famer, and this kind of streak doesn’t happen with everyone; he’s already lasted longer than some of his former Penguins’ teammates like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
