The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to inch closer to a fully healthy roster.
The defensive group of the Pittsburgh Penguins was hit with injuries to four of their starting skaters and some may be nearing a return to the lineup.
The Penguins are in New Jersey to take on the Devils, and both Marcus Pettersson and Jan Rutta took part in the morning skate.
Both Pettersson and Rutta haven’t skated with the team since their respective injuries.
Just because they skated with the rest of the team doesn’t mean they are returning right away.
Pettersson was placed on long-term injured reserve and isn’t eligible for a return until the final game of the regular season.
Rutta on the other hand was never taken off of the active roster so he’s good to return at any point.
It isn’t expected to be against the Devils, however, as Pettersson and Rutta skated as a fourth defensive pairing during the skate.
The Penguins are also still without Nick Bonino and Dmitry Kulikov; head coach Mike Sullivan expects all injured players will return before the end of the regular season.
All of the injured Penguins are on the trip to New Jersey and skated following the morning skate.
