The Pittsburgh Penguins are nearing yet another milestone in the 2022-23 season.
PITTSBURGH - The 2022-23 season has been a roller coaster ride for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but their captain has remained as productive as ever.
At 35-years-old, Sidney Crosby isn’t slowing down as he paces the Penguins with 88 points (31G-57A) in 77 games played.
With five games remaining, Crosby not only has time to add to his great season, but also his Hall of Fame worthy career.
In 1,185 games played, Crosby has recorded 1,497 points, just three shy of 1,500.
Crosby has been passing legends all season in the all-time scoring list, and while he wouldn’t pass anyone by hitting 1,500, he would put himself in elite company.
Only 14 other players have ever recorded 1,500 career points, and once Alex Ovechkin passes the threshold, as well, it’ll be quite a while before anyone does it again.
Ovechkin is only 14 points behind Crosby and will most certainly hit 1,500 in the 2023-24 season.
Over Crosby’s career, he has scored 548 goals and 949 assists; at the pace he is working, he’ll not only reach 1,500 points this year, but 1,000 career assists by next season.
The Penguins have seen plenty of milestones during the 2022-23 season; Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang playing in their 1,000th career games, Bryan Rust eclipsing 500 games, Crosby flying up the leaderboards for offensive production.
No matter if the Penguins reach the postseason or not, Crosby notching his 1,500th career point would be a perfect way to close out the 2022-23 regular season.
