
The Pittsburgh Penguins have another name heading to Latvia/Finland for the 2023 IIHF World Championship.
The 2023 IIHF World Championship will see more faces from the Pittsburgh Penguins organization as Alex Nylander will represent Team Sweden.
According to a release, the Penguins’ forward is one of five names added to Sweden’s roster.
Nylander was named to the team alongside Jakob Silfverberg of the Anaheim Ducks, Lucas Raymond and Jonathan Berggren of the Detroit Red Wings, and Rasmus Sandin of the Washington Capitals.
Despite being born in Calgary, Nylander represents Sweden on the national stage thanks to his father, Michael, a native of Stockholm.
In nine games at the NHL level with the Penguins, Nylander scored a goal and an assist for two points.
Nylander spent a majority of the 2022-23 season with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were he scored a 50 points (25G-25A).
At 25-years-old, this will be Nylander’s first time representing Sweden at the professional level.
Nylander wore the yellow and blue on multiple occasions but all at a junior level; from 2014 to 2018 he won four medals, including silver at the 2018 World Junior Championship.
In 32 games of junior international play, Nylander has recorded 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points.
Nylander joins fellow Penguins Nick Bonino and Casey DeSmith as representatives at the 2023 IIHF World Championship.
