The Pittsburgh Penguins might not keep their first round pick, but they at least have their eye on someone.
It’s rare that the Pittsburgh Penguins hold possession to their first round draft pick, but with the 2023 NHL Draft creeping closer, they still maintain the 14th overall pick.
With new president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas at the helm for the Penguins, it’s still a mystery if he plans on dealing that pick.
For the time being, however, Dubas and the Penguins’ scouting staff attended the NHL Scouting Combine and talked with potential first round selections.
One player that the Penguins took to dinner was Brayden Yager of the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors.
According to Andrew Forbes, Dubas was not part of the dinner.
Since scouring reports began on the 2023 Draft class, Yager has hovered around the Penguins selection.
If the Penguins decide to utilize their first round pick at the draft, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Yager come their way.
In 67 games during the 2022-23 season with Moose Jaw, Yager finished second on the team in scoring with 78 points (28G-50A).
During the combine, Yager finished seventh among all prospects in the wingate cycle test.
