Kyle Dubas is likely to look at some old friends when making a hire for Pittsburgh Penguins general manager.

When the Pittsburgh Penguins made it official that they hired Kyle Dubas, they named him president of hockey operations.

With Dubas titled as president, the Penguins still had a vacancy at the general manger position.

In his opening press conference, Dubas stated he would be working as an interim general manager and will begin a search in July.

While it’s likely the Penguins don’t make a GM hire any time soon, it will be interesting to see what kind of individual Dubas targets.

Dubas’ former organization, the Toronto Maple Leafs, might be the first place he looks when searching for a general manager.

According to the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the Penguins are likely to target Maple Leafs assistant GM Brandon Pridham.

When Dubas was with the Maple Leafs, he and Pridham worked closely together to build one of the best teams in the NHL.

In the Maple Leafs search for a new general manager, Pridham was an early contender, but quickly fell out of favor, despite temporarily being given GM duties.

Toronto ended their search for a new GM by signing Brad Treliving, but they recently made another hire that pushed Pridham down the totem pole.

Shane Doan was brought into the Maple Leafs front office as a special advisor to the general manager.

Sure, it’s a very Dwight Schrute-esque title, but it’s more cooks in the kitchen in Toronto.

Dubas will likely zero in on a first time GM with his hire and Pridham is an outstanding option.

The two are familiar with each other and Pridham can gain GM experience under the tutelage of Dubas.

Jason Spezza's name also continues to be thrown around in relation to a Dubas hire and working in the Penguins' front office.
