Two more Pittsburgh Penguins skaters have hit the waiver wire.

Two more Pittsburgh Penguins skaters have hit the waiver wire.

Just a few days after losing Kasperi Kapanen to waiver, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed two more skaters on the wire.

It’s being reported that the Penguins have placed forward Brock McGinn and defenseman Mark Friedman on waivers.

McGinn has failed to score a point since before the Christmas break when he recorded a short handed goal; that’s 26 games without a single point.

Much like Kapanen, McGinn was riding the same third line that has performed well below their expectations.

Head coach Mike Sullivan said following the waiving of Kapanen that when expectations aren’t being met or production is following, changes need to be made.

In 59 games played this season, McGinn has only recorded 15 points (10G-5A).

It wasn’t expected that Friedman would stay on the NHL roster for long; the Penguins have a full compliment of defensemen and Friedman is normally in the AHL.

Friedman has been dealing with an upper-body injury for the last few games and couldn’t be moved until able to return to play.

In 11 NHL appearances this year, Friedman has recoded just a goal on the blue line.

If McGinn clears waivers, he will be sent to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL, and only $1.1 million of the $2.75 million cap hit will be relieved.

General manager Ron Hextall stated that he was looking for cap space to make a move to improve the roster.

Something must be cooking if he’s continuing to send players through waivers.
