The Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the play for much of the second period, but couldn't capitalize for a win in Vegas.

Should fans be concerned that the Penguins playoff streak may be broken this year?

In hopes of bouncing back from a brutal defeat at the Winter Classic, the Pittsburgh Penguins departed out west for a battle against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Despite some late-game drive, the Golden Knights got the upper hand, extending the Penguins’ losing streak to six games.

The Penguins started the game the same way they started their practice the previous day.

Mike Sullivan described the practice as lethargic, and that’s exactly how the first period looked.

Former Penguins forward Phil Kessel opened the scoring about two minutes into the game when he capitalized on a flubbed shot from Paul Cotter.

The Golden Knights followed up the Kessel goal with two more to end the first period up 3-0.

The Penguins came out in the second period looking like the much better team; they commanded play and had a number of good opportunities through a majority of the second period.

The second period was almost all Penguins as they rifled off 20 shots; Golden Knights goalie not only stole the period, but stole the show with his performance.

Despite the dominating play from the Penguins for a good 15 minutes of the second frame, the Golden Knights extended their lead in the closing seconds.

A deflected shot just barely found its way through Casey DeSmith to put the Golden Knights up 4-0 before heading into the final frame.

Ty Smith broke the shutout bid with his first goal as a member of the Penguins; Sidney Crosby was credited with an assist on the goal marking his first point in five games.

Following the Smith goal, Hill continued to stand on his head finishing the game with 38 saves.

Crosby notched his 20th goal of the year with just over a minute left in the game to push the final score to 5-2.

The Penguins’ losing streak extends to six games as they head to Arizona for their first ever contest against the Coyotes at Mullett Arena.
