The Pittsburgh Penguins are in dire need of a shakeup and a turnaround before it's too late.

PITTSBURGH - Ever since the Christmas break, the Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t been the same team, and the inefficiencies are continuing to stack against them.

The Penguins are 8-10-4 since the Christmas break with exceedingly less runway every day to make a change.

At this point, this team needs multiple changes, but how much can actually be done?

General manager Ron Hextall doesn’t have the time, nor the resources to completely fix the Penguins via trades, and there is still all kind of fog around the Tristan Jarry situation.

According to Mike Sullivan, Jarry has been seeing doctors from both within and outside of the Penguins organization; clearly it’s not a small injury and everyone just has to hope he’ll be able to perform at his level upon returning.

Regardless of who is in net for the Penguins, though, the team in front of them needs to do better, and like their captain said, have to find something to build off of.

“We got to find a way to move forward,” Sidney Crosby said. “We got to find consistency in our game. You want to find consistency.”

Crosby said before that he hopes the stretch run can bring out the best in the Penguins, the desperation of clinging to a playoff spot should be a boost for the team.

“We're gonna see what we're made of here, down the stretch,” Crosby said. “That's the situation we're in, and hopefully it brings out the best in us."

The rest of the group know they need to be better and quite a few of them knows what it takes to win.

“Guys are winners in here, obviously,” goalie Dustin Tokarski said. “Things aren’t going smooth.”

Winning isn’t easy but there is a lot at stake for the Penguins; reaching the postseason for the 17th consecutive time, proving the aging core can still get it done, winning hockey games because that is the standard.

The entire team, from the players, to the coaches, and up to the general manager, can’t sit around and hope for the best.

Everyone involved needs to do better and take action rather than wait for things to come.
