PITTSBURGH - Ever since Tristan Jarry suffered a lower-body injury during the Winter Classic, the Pittsburgh Penguins have only seen their starting goalie in a pair of games.

Following those two games, the Penguins stated that Jarry would be out of the lineup until following the All-Star break so he can work his way back to full health.

The All-Star game was about two weeks ago and Jarry is still yet to see game action; so what gives?

Jarry has been traveling and taking practices with the team but is yet to see game action.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan has stated multiple times that Jarry is making progress and they’ve been encouraged, but he’s still yet to hit the ice.

Ahead of the Penguins battle against the New Jersey Devils, Sullivan provided an update on Jarry’s status and where he stands in his recovery.

“He had a strong on-ice session today, he had one yesterday, as well,” Sullivan said. “We’ll continue to build his conditioning through what he’s doing with our group.”

Sullivan noted that Jarry will not need a conditioning stint in the AHL before getting back into NHL games, despite the lengthy time away.

Jarry did miss a practice before the team traveled to New York to take on the Islanders, and Sullivan chalked up the absence to doctors appointments.

According to Sullivan, team and outside doctors have been monitoring Jarry’s progress back to the ice.

“There’s a group,” Sullivan said. “There’s been outside consultants, as well. They’re making sure they’re doing their due diligence to monitor Tristan as closely as they can.”

Jarry remains on injured reserve and his status still sits at day-to-day as the Penguins get ready to play their ninth straight game without him.

The Penguins earned points in the two games Jarry appeared in and he helped show what kind of help he can bring to the team.

Without Jarry in the lineup since the Winter Classic, the Penguins are 7-6-2 and in dire need of consistency between the pipes.

That’s exactly what Jarry can bring when he makes his eventual return, whenever that may be.
