The Pittsburgh Penguins won't pick first overall, but have a slight chance of moving into the top five.
The NHL Draft Lottery is here and the Pittsburgh Penguins may not have phenomenal odds of movement, but if the balls fall the right way there could be a big change of fortune to their offseason.
Despite entering the lottery with a 1.5% chance of 'winning,' according to the NHL, the Penguins can only pick as high as fourth overall.
Winners of the Draft Lottery can only move up as many as 10 spaces, and the Penguins sit with the 14th overall selection.
Those odds are slim, but they've been on the right side of the fate before; it was a league-wide lottery that landed them Sidney Crosby in 2005.
According to tankathon.com, the Penguins actually have a boosted chance of notching the lottery with a 3.2% chance of moving up.
Tankathon gives the Penguins a 94.7% chance of picking 14th, a 3.2% shot at 4th, and a 2.1% chance of sliding and taking the 15th overall selection.
The NHL Draft Lottery is set to take place at 8:00 p.m. and despite the slim odds, the Penguins fortunes this summer could be given a huge boost.
No matter where they land the Penguins will have their highest selection since taking Derrick Pouliot eighth overall in 2012.
Once the Penguins know where they will be picking, the floodgates can open with dives into the possible prospects set to enter the system.
Sorry to say Connor Bedard will not be among those candidates.
