It may come as no surprise but the Pittsburgh Penguins still haven't seen much improvement to their pool of prospects.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have added two huge pieces to their prospect pool over the last two NHL Drafts, but that still hasn’t pushed them up the pipeline rankings.

In the most recent ranking of NHL pipelines from the Athletic, the Penguins landed at 29.

Highlighted by Brayden Yager and Owen Pickering, there aren’t many youngsters projected to make a huge impact at the NHL level.

According to the Athletic, Yager and Pickering are guys that have a chance to be middle to top of the lineup players, but beyond them it’s sketchy.

2023 third-round draft pick defenseman Emil Pieniniemi has a chance to crack an NHL lineup, but that’s still years away.

The Penguins are hungry for prospect depth, but this is the give and take of building a team that focuses on winning now.

Kyle Dubas’ plan with the Penguins is to win now and build for the future; while that is every front office executive’s goal, it’s not easy to achieve.

Restocking the shelves will take some time and more high-end future stars.

NHL Network recently released their list of the top 50 prospects and no one from the Penguins’ pipeline was found.

It’ll be an uphill battle to rebuild the prospect pool, but it certainly isn’t a main concern for the Penguins at the moment.

The only teams to finish behind the Penguins in the Athletic's list were the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New York Islanders.
