The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered an absolutely brutal defeat to the Los Angeles Kings, just over 24 hours removed from dominating the Anaheim Ducks.
More than just losing 6-0 in LA, however, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was unhappy with how his game came to an end.
With just over 10 minutes left in the contest, Crosby was crosschecked by Michael Anderson and sent face first into the skates of another Kings skater.
Crosby was down for a moment after the cross check, before heading to confront Anderson.
The two barked at each other for a time before officials decided to assess 10-minute misconducts to both players.
Crosby, looking for an explanation, followed referee Garrett Rank around the ice but Rank refused to talk and gave the Penguins captain his first career game misconduct.
Following the 6-0 loss, Crosby said he was surprised to be booted from the game.
"I honestly was shocked I was getting kicked out of the game,” Crosby said. “I had no idea.”
Crosby was unhappy with the situation, but knew he might be on thin ice when it comes to showing his true colors.
“Can I really say what I think anyway?”
Head coach Mike Sullivan was also fairly unhappy with the ending of Crosby’s night, and even he wasn’t given a reason.
“I don't think Garrett had any interest in giving us an explanation."
The 6-0 loss may have been the Penguins performance of the season, despite playing a decent game through the first 40 minutes.
