Fenway Sports Group and Sidney Crosby agree they want him to always play with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

When Fenway Sports Group purchased the Pittsburgh Penguins, they did so with the intentions of owning a team capable of competing for the Stanley Cup.

For the first time since 2006, the Penguins are not part of the NHL playoffs, and a number of red flags were raised throughout the season.

As questions swirl regarding what kind of team a new front office staff can build in Pittsburgh, FSG made sure there was one consistent in the lineup.

Sidney Crosby has been the face of the Penguins’ organization since 2005 and FSG has made it clear that they will do everything in their power to make sure he stays in Pittsburgh.

“It’s very important that Sidney Crosby never plays a game in another uniform,” Dave Beeston of Fenway Sports Management said.

Heading into last off-season, the main focus for the Penguins was getting Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang re-signed to take them to the ends of their careers.

It took some time, but the Penguins got it done and FSG had a big say in those two sticking around.

Crosby’s current contract expires following the 2024-25 season, and if he has more hockey to play, it’s likely he stays with the Penguins.

“I’d love to,” Crosby said. “That’s been the case since day one.”

The Penguins’ core group has been playing hockey together since the 2006-07 season and have grown into one of the best trios of teammates in sports history.

“I feel really fortunate to have been drafted here,” Crosby said. “Great memories and got to play with two teammates specifically for a really long time. I’d love that to be the case.”
