PITTSBURGH - Heading into their bye week, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Tristan Jarry would be on the shelf until the conclusion of the All-Star break.

On the day of the All-Star Game, however, the Penguins recalled goalie Dustin Tokarski from the AHL and fans began to assume Jarry wasn’t ready for a return.

They assumed correctly, as general manager Ron Hextall stated Jarry is still out day-to-day.

Hextall said he believes the week off pushed Jarry closer to a full recovery and should be back to full-health soon.

Jarry did skate prior to a full team practice with goalie coach Andy Chiodo, but that was the extent; Jarry did not participate with his teammates.

Tokarski and Casey DeSmith were the two goalies in the team’s fist practice back from the break and will likely be the duo for their game against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Penguins goaltending situation has been called into question this season, and Hextall says both guys have gone as the teams gone.

The team and its goalies have been fairly inconsistent in Hextall’s eyes.

Jarry had a phenomenal stretch in the crease, but the injuries have gotten in the way; meanwhile DeSmith has struggled to find the win colum on a regular basis.

The Penguins have their work cut out for them for the rest of the season, and they’ll need a healthy Jarry to make it anywhere.
