PITTSBURGH - At long last, the Pittsburgh Penguins will have Tristan Jarry back as their starting goalie.
Jarry has missed all but two games since the Winter Classic with an apparent lower-body injury, the Penguins have been in dire need of a steady hand in net.
During his time away, Jarry has been with the team and getting in plenty of practices, but he was never cleared for a return to game action.
Head coach Mike Sullivan even stated that Jarry was getting looked at by both in-house and outside consultants.
Sullivan said everyone was doing their ‘due diligence’ to monitor Jarry as close as possible.
In Jarry’s absence, Casey DeSmith was tasked with a majority of the starts; DeSmith did all he could as a backup goalie.
It was pretty clear the team was asking for a lot more from him than he could offer.
Dustin Tokarski was worked in every so often, but he’s shown to be not much more than just a third string goalie.
With Jarry returning, the Penguins now look to get their season back on track; they’ve lost eight straight against Metropolitan Division opponents and will have an immediate chance to change that.
The Penguins are set to take on the New York Islanders with Jarry’s return and the Islanders are going to be without one of their top scorers in Mat Barzal.
The Islanders announced that Barzal will be out indefinitely.
With Jarry back into the fold and the Penguins looking for a quick course correction, this is the perfect opportunity to jump start the final stretch of the season.
