Fenway Sports Group has been pretty quiet since they took over as majority owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
PITTSBURGH - With 12 games remaining in the 2022-23 regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be in a state of free fall.
The Penguins look like a ship lost at sea with how Ron Hextall has constructed the roster.
The defense is injured beyond belief, the bottom-six is useless, and the additions from the trade deadline are probably not going to pan out.
Fans have been calling for the firing of Hextall for a while now, but the people in charge of that decision have been pretty silent.
The 2022-23 season is the first full season that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has owned the Penguins following the sale of the team at the turn of the calendar to 2022.
FSG has a history of building winning organizations, but fans haven’t seen that in Pittsburgh; really, ever since FSG took over, the Penguins have only gone downhill.
Does FSG have a plan? What do they think of the Penguins who are in a vulnerable state?
As fans beg for the firing of Hextall, what does FSG think of his work on the team?
It would be nice if fans were given a chance to know what’s going on in the minds of those in charge; the one beyond Hextall or Brian Burke.
At this point in the season, with the Penguins outside of a playoff spot and hope dwindling, fans are searching for any sort of reassurance that the ownership group is aware of what’s going on.
Is it too much to ask for any kind of acknowledgment from FSG outside of a blurb on their website?
John W. Henry, FSG’s founder, doesn’t even have the Penguins listed in his Twitter bio which does feature his other ventures.
This isn’t saying a Twitter bio on a relatively inactive account means the entire group doesn’t care, nor is this umbrella stating that FSG is an absentee group.
It’s just that there is no indication of how they feel or what their plan is, and fans are getting worried.
With season ticket prices on the rise, yet playing abilities on the fall, fans are anxious about FSG in charge.
