The Pittsburgh Penguins are out west for a brief road trip, and they're kicking it off against the Anaheim Ducks. The Penguins (25-16-9) are hot off of an overtime victory against the defending Stanley Cup champions while the Ducks (17-29-6) continue to stumble through their season. Here's what to watch for in this matchup.
1. Penguins Scouting For Trade Deadline?
The Penguins and Ducks have teamed up for four trades since 2016, making them quite familiar trade partners. With the Ducks are having another forgettable season and hold some contracts they're willing to part ways with. It makes sense to expect another trade is possible between these teams.
The Penguins organization will get a first-hand look at the Ducks' roster in this matchup. A few players to keep an eye on from Anaheim are: Adam Henrique, Maxime Comtois, Frank Vatrano, and Jakob Silfverberg.
2. Geno Approaching 1,200 Career Points
Evgeni Malkin sits just two points away from 1,200 in his career. Entering his 1,031st career game against the Ducks, Geno will become the 51st member of the 1,200 point club.
When he hits the mark, he will become the 17th fastest player in league history to reach that total and the second fastest amongst active players (only behind Sidney Crosby). Look out for Malkin's attempt to hit another milestone in his storied career.
3. Kris Letang Leading the Way
Since his return from injury and absence due to personal reasons, Kris Letang has been a force in the Penguins' lineup. With five points in four games back in action, Letang has quickly returned to anchoring the Pittsburgh defense. He's also shown up when needed most, as he's scored the overtime game-winning goal in two straight games. He'll need to keep this incredible stretch going as the Penguins make their way through this four game road trip.
