Evgeni Malkin will be a driving factor in the Pittsburgh Penguins 2023-24 season.

Evgeni Malkin will be a driving factor in the Pittsburgh Penguins 2023-24 season.

Evgeni Malkin may be one of the oldest players on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster at 37, but he is still one of the most dominant.

With a lot riding for the Penguins heading into the 2023-24 season, the Penguins can expect a lot more of that signature Malkin magic.

After appearing in all 82 games during the 2022-23 season, Malkin proved a number of doubters wrong by not only staying healthy, but producing on a consistent basis.

In the 82 games, Malkin stayed just over a point per game with 83 in total (27G-56A); it was the most points put up by Geno since a 98-point campaign in 2017-18.

Whether it was due to a shortened season or an injury, Malkin has been unable to reach 70 games played since that 2017-18 season.

In 2022-23, the Penguins got a healthy and driven Malkin who showed many that he was still worthy of his place in the NHL.

After missing the postseason, there is no doubting that the hunger and drive will still be there, if not at another level heading into 2023-24.

With Erik Karlsson on board, Malkin should not only stay the course in terms of production, but his numbers might see a good jump.

Karlsson will bring a stellar puck moving ability to five-on-five and power play, and Malkin should be at the receiving end of much of that offense.

Malkin has always been a polarizing player in Pittsburgh, and that won’t slow down any time soon, but he will have another dominating season as the Penguins look to climb their way back into the Stanley Cup race.
