Penguins Front Office Still Offers Plenty of Attraction

Being in the Pittsburgh Penguins front office isn't as unappealing as some may believe.

The Pittsburgh Penguins officially have the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, but should they be looking to trade it with under two months until the draft?

While plenty of names have been tossed around in regards to the Pittsburgh Penguins hunt for a new hockey operations staff, critics have had one very noticeable gripe with the situation.

Plenty of people believe that a job in the Penguins front office isn’t as appealing or fulfilling as it used to be.

While it might be true that the window of opportunity to have success might be shorter, there is still plenty to be attracted to in Pittsburgh.

For starters, as someone told Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, as few as three seasons with Sidney Crosby is enough to want a job in the Penguins’ front office.

Crosby owns generational talent, and even at the age of 35, he’s proven there is no slowing down any time soon.

The Penguins may have missed the postseason for the first time in 17 years, but there is always a chance of winning when Crosby is in the lineup.

Another criticism about the next general manager is that they would be taking over a team at the end of their road; wouldn’t most GM’s welcome that kind of challenge?

There’s a few different directions a new general manager can take that argument; either they focus on their build for future success in their eyes, or they take the shell of a once great franchise and restore the former glory.

Either way, a successful GM will have built the Penguins to their likeness and they have every right to take as much credit as they’d like.

The Penguins aren’t necessarily a blank slate, but there is all kinds of room to work with; skilled general managers, like Kyle Dubas, would know precisely how to make them a winner again.

There is only one real rule to follow, keep the core together. Other than that the next GM will be able to build the team however they see fit.
