On Saturday, the Vancouver Canucks signed former Pittsburgh Penguins second-round draft pick Daniel Sprong to a one-year deal worth $925k.
Sprong played the first three seasons of his career with the Penguins from 2015 to 2019, most recently played with the Detroit Red Wings, and bagged 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games.
He's been an unrestricted free agent since July 1 and now will join his sixth NHL team after stints with the Anaheim Ducks, Washington Capitals, and Seattle Kraken.
His career totals include 85 goals, 74 assists, 159 points, 66 penalty minutes, and 11 game-winners in 344 career games.
Initially drafted by Pittsburgh 46th overall at the 2015 Entry Draft, he debuted as an 18-year-old but didn't become an NHL regular until 2018-19.
Although Sprong never topped 23 points, he finally found a groove with the Kraken in 2022-23, scoring 21 goals and 46 points and earning a plus-13 rating.
He followed that campaign with a solid year with the Red Wings, but their re-tool left him as an odd man out, and now he's taking his 39 goals over the past two seasons to British Columbia.
