Former Pittsburgh Penguins player Vinnie Hinostroza is leading the AHL in scoring with 16 points in nine games.

Vinnie Hinostroza, currently playing with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL, is the league's leading scorer with 16 points in nine games.

Last year, the 30-year-old briefly played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, appearing in nine games and collecting four points. Instead, he spent most of the season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, with 35 points in 41 games.

Hinostroza's performance was the second-best on the baby Penguins, just eight points behind Ty Smith, who led the team with 43 points in 63 games.

Pittsburgh did not offer the sixth-round pick (169th overall, 2012) a contract in the offseason, so he signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Nashville Predators.

Thanks to five goals and eleven helpers, Hinostroza has helped the Admirals to an 8-1 record and the top spot in the Central Divison.

His 16 points are double that of Emil Bemström, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's top scorer. The Penguins are third in the Atlantic Division with a 6-2-0 record.

Since turning pro in 2014-15, Hinostroza has split his time between the AHL (171 games) and NHL (374 days). He scored 56 goals and 142 in the minors and 54 goals and 151 points in the NHL.
