Pittsburgh Penguins captain and all-time great Sidney Crosby is well-known for the things he can do on the ice. And for good reason.
But who said it has to stop at hockey?
On Wednesday, Crosby and longtime teammates Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin took the stage alongside former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh Pirates phenom pitcher Paul Skenes at "The Big Night AHT," an event thrown at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh by sports personality Pat McAfee.
At the event, Crosby - along with Skenes and Roethlisberger - were tasked with the challenge of throwing a football all the way to the other side of the catwalk and through a hoop for $1 million.
"Definitely a lot of nerves when you're going against those two arms," Crosby said. "That's a tough couple guys to go against. But, we were having fun with it."
Crosby was up to the task, and - as a shock to no one - he did it on his first try:
Move over, Aaron Rodgers.
After seeing the perfect form on the throw from Crosby - as well as his perfect spiral and cannon of an arm - fans started to suggest that Crosby might just have what it takes to step into the "QB1" position for the Steelers next season. Up to this point, the Steelers have yet to sign a starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
Folks were quick to point out that perfect form, and they even went as far as to make some convincing edits of Crosby throwing darts to star wide receiver George Pickens:
There's even more throwback footage to support Crosby taking the helm at quarterback for the Steelers next season:
"Standing at center ice [at PPG Paints Arena], you don't expect to be holding a football throwing for a million dollars," Crosby said. "That's the last thing you expect when you're at center ice. It was a little different being out there with no ice and no gear, but just an awesome experience."
So could Crosby be the Steelers' solution at QB1?
When asked by McAfee about whether or not he expected Crosby's successful throw, Malkin responded plainly.
"Yes."
Letang took it a step further.
"He's just good at everything in life," Letang said. "He's just the perfect guy... perfect boyfriend, perfect hockey player. And now he can throw, he can play golf, I saw him hit a ball out of the park at [PNC Park], so... he can do it all!"
Yeah, let's not forget about that one, where he not only hit a home run, but hit the baseball out of the park:
You know what? Crosby might just be more similar to NFL ageless legend Tom Brady than people realize, and he could be the guy to bring the Steelers back to the promised land. Might as well throw his hat in the ring for a designated hitter position with the Pirates, too.
The only sport he might need a bit more training in is basketball. It's something he'll have to work on during the offseason.
