    The Pittsburgh Penguins just wrapped up their 57th season, missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third consecutive season. Despite their recent lack of success, the franchise has appeared in the playoffs 37 times and won five championships.

    Our newest series will reflect on how the Penguins performed on specific days leading up to the 2025 Stanley Cup Final.

    May 14, 1993 - Despite a goal and assist from Ron Francis and two points (assists) from Larry Murphy, the Penguins' quest for a third straight Stanley Cup ends in overtime with a David Volek goal.

    Not only did the Islanders end Pittsburgh's reign as champions, but the game is also remembered for a nasty hit that Kevin Stevens suffered, which would have a lingering effect on the remainder of his career.

    May 14, 1995 - Francis sets a career high for points in a playoff game with a goal and four assists in a 6-5 overtime win over the Capitals. Jaromir Jagr and Stevens each chip in two goals and an assist apiece. 

    Luc Robitaille was the hero, netting his second career overtime goal just 4:30 into the extra period. 

    May 14, 2017 - Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin each have a goal and an assist to lead the Penguins to a 4-1 series-opening win over the Senators.
