    The Pittsburgh Penguins just wrapped up their 57th season, missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third consecutive season. Despite their recent lack of success, the franchise has appeared in the playoffs 37 times and won five championships.

    Our newest series will reflect on how the Penguins performed on specific days leading up to the 2025 Stanley Cup Final.

    May 15, 1991 - In their first-ever Stanley Cup Final game, the Penguins lost to the North Stars 5-4, but got two points from Ron Francis (two assists), Jaromir Jagr (two assists), and Scott Young (goal, assist).

    May 15, 2001 - Alex Kovalev (goal, assist) and Mario Lemieux (two assists) led Pittsburgh to a 4-2 win over New Jersey in Game 2.

    May 15, 2008 - Jordan Staal tallies both Penguins' goals in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers in Game 4. Interestingly, Tyler Kennedy and Maxime Talbot assisted on the two third-period tallies. 

    May 15, 2017 - With 23 saves, Marc-Andre Fleury records his eighth career playoff shutout with a 1-0 win over the Senators. Ultimately, it would be the final shutout of his Penguins career. 

    May 15, 2022 - Despite two points from Evan Rodrigues, plus goals from Jake Guentzel and Danton Heinen, the Penguins lost to the Rangers 4-3 in overtime. As of 2025, this is the last playoff game the franchise has played.
