    The Pittsburgh Penguins just wrapped up their 57th season, missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third consecutive season. Despite their recent lack of success, the franchise has appeared in the playoffs 37 times and won five championships.

    Our newest series will reflect on how the Penguins performed on specific days leading up to the 2025 Stanley Cup Final.

    Notable Penguins Performances On This Day

    May 16, 1995 - Luc Robitaille and Tomas Sandström combine for eight points, with two goals and two assists apiece in a 7-1 victory over the Capitals in Game 6. Jaromir Jagr scored two goals, and Larry Murphy collected two assists. Overall, ten different players had a point.

    Sandström's performance was the second-most points in a playoff game, following a five-point night with the Los Angeles Kings in 1990. Meanwhile,  Robitaille tied a career high, following a four-point night with the Kings in 1993. 

    May 16, 2016 - Captain Sidney Crosby records his only playoff overtime goal in a 3-2 victory over the Lightning in Game 2. His game winner came 40 seconds into overtime to tie the Eastern Conference Final at 1-1.
