    The Pittsburgh Penguins just wrapped up their 57th season, missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third consecutive season. Despite their recent lack of success, the franchise has appeared in the playoffs 37 times and won five championships.

    Notable Penguins Performances On This Day

    May 19, 1991 - Kevin Stevens establishes a career-high with 15 penalty minutes in the Penguins' 3-1 loss to the North Stars in Game 3 of the 1991 Stanley Cup Final. It was the first time in his career that he amassed over ten penalty minutes in a playoff game. However, on Apr. 23, 1992, Stevens would break this record with 16 in a Game 3 win over the Capitals. 

    Meanwhile, Randy Gilhen, an 11-year veteran with 314 penalty minutes, records the only playoff game of his career with more than four penalty minutes, picking up 12 in the loss. Overall, Pittsburgh had 47 penalty minutes compared to Minnesota's 30.

    May 19, 1993 - Two Penguins legends, Jaromir Jagr (goal, two assists) and Mario Lemieux (two goals and one assist), combine for six points to help the club to a 2-0 series lead over the Bruins following a 5-2 Pittsburgh win in Game 2. The win gives the Penguins six consecutive victories over the Bruins in the Prince of Wales Conference Finals.

    May 19, 2001 - Johan Hedberg surrenders five goals in the Penguins' 5-0 loss to the Devils in Game 4. This contest was the second time the Swedish netminder gave up five goals in a playoff game, while producing his third-worst career SV% (.833) in the loss. 

    May 19, 2017 - Pittsburgh defeats Ottawa to even their Eastern Conference Final series at 2-2 thanks to two points from Sidney Crosby (goal, assist) and Jake Guentzel (two assists).
