The Pittsburgh Penguins hope their upcoming home stand can be a boost for consistency.
It’s been a rocky start to the 2023-24 season for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but some of that can be chalked up to an incredible inconsistent playing schedule.
The Penguins have played five games over two weeks which included a back-to-back almost right away.
Of their five games, only two have come in front of a home crowd; while the competition is about to pick up, so is the consistency.
For the next week, the Penguins will have a game every other day and they will all be on home ice at PPG Paints Arena.
Considering how the start of the season has gone, the Penguins are looking at this stretch of consistency as an opportunity.
“It’ll be nice to get in a little bit of a flow here,” Bryan Rust said. “Have some games at home. Consistently, too, will be nice.”
The Penguins know they can be better than what they’ve showed to start the year, and while staying in one place is beneficial, the competition isn’t getting any easier.
A pair of Stanley Cup contenders are coming to Pittsburgh in the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche; those aren’t easy tests, but the Penguins are focused on the challenge.
“That’s a great opportunity for us to establish the game that we want to play,” head coach Mike Sullivan said. “We’ll see where that takes us and we’ll go from there.”
Sullivan hasn’t been happy with the recent performances from his players, and a wake up call should ring soon if things don’t start improving.
For the time being, Sullivan and the Penguins are excited to play at home and look to make the proper adjustments in front of their home crowd.
“I think it’s an opportunity for us to get into a little bit of a rhythm,” Sullivan said. “To go every other night for the next week or so will be good for our team.”
The Penguins are excited about the home cooking and are looking forward getting things back on track before it becomes too late.
