The Pittsburgh Penguins take on the San Jose Sharks for the second time this season.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to forget their embarrassing defeat in Los Angeles when they take on the San Jose Sharks. Similar to their defeat against the Kings, the Penguins lost handedly to the Sharks in the two teams’ first meeting. Looking to close out their California trip with a win, here’s what to watch for between the Pens and Sharks.
1. Tristan Jarry Nearing Return to Penguins’ Crease
The Penguins are desperate for consistency in goal, and they may soon get a boost in that department. Tristan Jarry has taken part in more intense practices and appear ready to return to action. His presence will bring an instant upgrade to the goaltending position, and hopefully he can remain healthy upon his return.
2. Surging Sharks
Despite their place in the standings, the Sharks mustn’t be taken lightly. They’ve won three of their last four games, including a 6-4 win over the Penguins just prior to the All-Star break.
The Sharks are out of the playoff race, but they have a talented group that has already given the Penguins fits. The Pens need to find a way to neutralize the streaking Sharks to secure the victory.
3. Bryan Rust Returning to Form
The second line of the Penguins has come out flying after the All-Star break, and no one looks better than winger Bryan Rust. After an inconsistent first half, Rusty looks revitalized after the break and his production has improved because of it.
Rust has three goals and four points in his last five games, playing alongside Evgeni Malkin and Jason Zucker. The Pens need sustained production from Rust and his line if they want to end their road trip with a win.
The Penguins and Sharks face-off at 10:30 p.m.
