The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to be led by Sidney Crosby who is on pace to reach new levels of production.
For nearly two decades, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been led by one of the greatest players in the history of hockey.
Now at the age of 36, Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby is showing no signs of slowing down and is pacing to do something historic.
Through 24 games of the 2023-24 season, Crosby has 15 goals and 11 assists for a total of 26 total points.
What makes Crosby’s run so historic, however, is that he is pacing for an 82-game total of about 51 goals; that would be the most goals ever scored by someone 36 years or older.
Rival Alex Ovechkin picked up 50 during his age 36 season, but Crosby is pacing to beat that out by a single tally.
Crosby has been one of the lone bright spots in the early stages of the Penguins’ season and his pace would likely be higher if the power play found any sense of rhythm.
The Penguins currently boast the 30th ranked power play in the NHL with seven goals on 67 attempts; Crosby has two of those seven goals.
51 goals would tie Crosby’s career high from 2009-10 when he won his first of two Rocket Richard Trophies.
Crosby is doing incredible things for the Penguins at his age; he’s doing everything he can to carry his team to wins, but he desperately needs more help than he’s getting.
