The Pittsburgh Penguins have multiple players that could be good choices for the 2024 All-Star Game
The NHL is set to announce the first 32 players heading to the 2024 All-Star Game in Toronto and there are multiple Pittsburgh Penguins worthy of an invitation.
It’s been a roller coaster ride of a season so far for the Penguins, but that hasn’t stopped a few keys names from playing at another level.
The list is short, but Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, and Kris Letang have looked like solid options that could make the trip to Toronto.
Plenty has been said about Crosby and his play through the first 36 games of the season, but he’s earned every ounce of praise.
Crosby has recorded 21 goals and 17 assists for 38 points and was at one point on pace for over 50 goals on the year.
Without Crosby in the lineup, the Penguins wouldn’t be anywhere near a playoff spot and he’s well deserving of his 10th All-Star selection.
Even with that great play and production, Crosby isn’t even the Penguins leading scorer; that distinction belongs to Guentzel.
In 36 games played, Guentzel has notched 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 total points.
This production from Guentzel has been impressive, especially considering the fact he didn’t play any games in the preseason and wasn’t a full participant through most of training camp.
Guentzel entered the season cold, yet has been the Penguins most productive skater and has played extremely well at the right time.
The 2023-24 season is the final year of Guentzel’s contract and negotiations are yet to pick up between the team and the player.
Being named to his third All-Star game and participating for the second time would go a long way in Guentzel’s shot at a large contract once those talks do start.
It’s a bit more of a long shot, but Letang has had a quietly great year to start 2023-24; his outstanding season was highlighted by a record-breaking night on Long Island.
One stellar game aside, Letang has been a beast on both sides of the puck for the Penguins with extra emphasis being placed on his defensive game this season.
Letang has played a big role on the Penguins’ penalty kill as well as still producing at even strength.
In 36 games played, Letang has recorded three goals and 20 assists for 23 total points.
The Penguins are guaranteed to have at least one player represent them in Toronto, but it’ll be up to the fans if they get a second name invited, as well.
It’s unlikely the Penguins see two representatives, but there is sure to be some star power in their one name.
