With a ton of added depth and potential, P.O. Joseph might be on the hot seat with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With a ton of added depth and potential, P.O. Joseph might be on the hot seat with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will enter training camp ahead of the 2023-24 season with a roster full of players that have NHL potential.

Kyle Dubas spent much of his first season with the Penguins adding to the depth and brining in guys that can push for regular roles in the NHL.

At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious names on the trade block, but no matter the team, there is always a next move on the horizon.

The Penguins like everyone they have on the roster and each of them have their own uses, but at one point or another, someone will become the next casualty of the business.

Who will be the next Penguin on the move? Considering the amount of depth built in this position and a new regime in the front office, P.O. Joseph might fall as the next trade piece in Pittsburgh.

Joseph is a fantastic young defender worthy of the NHL, but there are plenty of capable options behind him on the depth chart.

Following Joseph sits an offensive minded Ty Smith, a Will Butcher looking to revitalize his career, then a pair of young prospects who could be nearing the next step in progression to the NHL.

First round pick from 2022 Owen Pickering and fifth rounder from 2021 Isaac Belliveau could both make big jumps in their development.

With that much depth at left defense, there will be a ton of added pressure on Joseph to retain his role with the Penguins.

It’s not clear what Dubas and his front office staff think of Joseph as a player, but one certainty is that Joseph could arguably be one of the most valuable trade assets on the roster.

Joseph is young with a ton of upside and potential to have a long career as a top tier defenseman in the NHL.

When the Penguins were hunting down Erik Karlsson, Joseph was a big name that could have been heading the other way.

At the moment, it looks like the Penguins have no intentions of making another trade, but there is always something lingering down the line.

Will Joseph be the headline of the next trade in Pittsburgh?
