Big Game Bryan Rust Is Back for the Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins received a pair of big time performances from Bryan Rust over the weekend.

Teddy Blueger finally broke through for a goal and carried momentum with Pittsburgh Penguins.

This past weekend offered two pivotal games for the Pittsburgh Penguins. They received a wake up call following a home loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday with the departure of Kasperi Kapanen.

The Penguins needed a response from their team, and Bryan Rust provided a glimpse of what has been missing this season. Rust is currently on track to score 19 goals which would be his lowest total since 2018-19 but has performed well despite failing to find the back of the net.

Rust kicked it into overdrive this weekend, scoring the game-winning goal on Saturday against the Blues. A moment that may prove to be the turning point of the season for this Penguins team.

However, Rust has lacked consistency this season and has failed to carry over productive offensive play from game to game. Even though Rust was held off the scoresheet against the Lightning on Sunday, he created a handful of premium scoring chances only to be shut down by Brian Elliott on each occasion.

It was clear that the events of last week sparked something in Rust. If he can carry that level of play through the remainder of the regular season, it will be difficult to keep the Penguins out of the postseason.
